DescriptionThis document provides guidelines to help people complete the Application to the NJDA for an Aquatic Farmer License. This guidebook provides explanations of many of the important agricultural policies that are relevant to aquaculture in New Jersey. It also covers a broad range of subjects such as physical/climatic conditions in the State; priority species for development in the State; potential financial assistance; and business plan development. The last part of this guide book concentrates on aquaculture funding.
NoteIn 1993, the Governor signed an Executive Order establishing the Aquaculture Development Task Force with a mandate to draft the State Aquaculture Development Plan for New Jersey. Members of the Task Force included the Secretary of Agriculture, and the Commissioners of the
Departments of Environmental Protection, Economic Development, and Health. In addition, technical expertise was recruited from industry and academia by the Fisheries and Aquaculture Technology Extension Center (FATEC), a component of the Institute of Marine and Coastal Sciences at Rutgers University managed this initiative.
