DescriptionThis is not a "recreation survey." It is a brief review, from the city-planning standpoint, of the value of a comprehensive system of public recreation. It is intended chiefly to fix public attention upon the larger aspects of the problems and especially upon certain constructive measures calculated to insure an intensive and more effective use of existing facilities and a unified and harmonious development with reference to the imperative needs of the near future. Topics addressed by the report include: the value and meaning of public recreation; the relation of public recreation to homes, schools, parks, private institutions, industry and commerce, commercial recreation, streets, parks and attractions, public celebrations, real estate additions and play space; Newark's congested ward-cities, and the schools of Newark.
NotePurpose: To address the issue of creating a complete public recreation system for Newark.
