DescriptionThis study was a two-year program initiated by a working committee comprised of invited scientists, staff memebrs of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Coastal Engineering Research Center (CERC), and representatives of the Smithsonian Institution, who met to delineate the problem areas and to design studies which might provide results of value in determing the effects of current waste disposal practices in the New York Bight. This section of the report presents the results of an analysis of observations made in 1969. The goal was to provide details of nearshore water circulation as related to movement and dispersal of sewage, sludge and dredging spoils deposited in a part of the New York Bight extending from Jones Inlet, NY to Monmouth Beach, NJ.
