The Picture Qualities element describes the specific characteristics of the picture, including the process used to create those characteristics. Picture Qualities is a parent element for eight subelements. Not all subelements are used for all source types. Subelements are:
Aspect ratio (with "type" attribute) [film; videotape; videodisc]
Color [film; videotape; videodisc]
Color process [film]
Signal format [videotape; videodisc]
Resolution [videotape; videodisc]
Analog Video Data Encoding [videodisc]
Structure [videotape; videodisc]

Definition
Temporal sampling structure for coding of the video. Typical analog NSTC video is interlaced. HD and digital formats can be either interlaced or progressive, often indicated by the notation of the video resolution (480i is interlaced, 720p is progressive).
