Abstract
This capstone analyzes one of the most powerful institutions within African American culture: the church. Dating back to slavery and rooted in southern Protestant tradition, religious worship and the black church played a vital role in shaping the Civil Rights Movement of the 1950s and 1960s. This capstone examines the various social, economic, and political achievements that were made as a result of the leadership provided by the black church and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
