Abstract
This document was derived from 'The Daily Home News' of Thursday, May 18, 1922. It is an article relating to statements and proceedings made by members of the Junior Order of American Mechanics Goodwill Council Number 32 at a 50th anniversary program. The article is a reflection of the issue of immigration restriction during this period. Congressman T. Frank Appleby of the Third Congressional District called for further restriction on immigration to compliment the 'Johnson three percent restriction bill.' He also praised the council for pushing the law requiring schools to have an American flag. Then Mayor John J. Morrison commended the council on their work to improve government activities in New Brunswick, particularly concerning the schools. Also, former Governor Edward C. Stokes calls for American moral leadership across the world. He urges America to guard its borders so as to not let in 'degenerate' immigrants to pollute the 'courageous' blood of America's settlers. Here is also a picture of Edward C. Stokes.
