Abstract
This interview was conducted as part of the New Jersey Historical Commission Grant-funded Multi-Ethnic Oral History Project. The interviewee is Mrs. Nguyen Thi Ki Duc, a Vietnamese American, who came to the United States as a refugee in 1977. Mrs. Duc describes her life as an educator in Vietnam before and during communism. Also she discusses why she despises communism and how she eventually left Vietnam by boat becuase of the government. After going to a refugee camp in Indonesia and then being sponsered to come to New Jersey, she initially had a slow time adapting. Mrs. Duc quickly went to community college in New Jersey and became a successful computer specialist with Western Electric. Although she appreciates all the opportunities America has given her, she still misses her motherland.
