DescriptionIn 1980, Catharine Stimpson became Professor of English at Rutgers University, where she also led the Institute for Research on Women, was Dean of the Graduate School and Vice Provost for Graduate Education. In 2010, she became Dean Emerita at New York University, where she has appointments in the Department of English, the Steinhardt Institute for Higher Education Policy, and the Law School. Stimpson is also the founding editor of Signs: Journal of Women in Culture and Society and served in this capacity from 1975 to 1980. Stimpson advocates for public higher education and the existence of women’s colleges and educational spaces. She outlines strategies for the success of public institutions and considers the future of women’s education in the United States.
