DescriptionThe author, an older, white male unwittingly wonders onto the cultural battlefield of identity politics, a university creative writing Master’s program. He attempts to make sense of the identity-based critiques he receives on his poetry, fiction, non-fiction and screen-writing. What is real, what is ideological, the result of a coercive culture of political correctness, he tries to sort out. He’s challenged to understand the perspectives of oppressed identity groups and his own privilege and history of racism and misogyny. All the while, he chafes against the forces that seek to limit his ability to express himself. The result pleads for bridges of understanding between the privileged and the oppressed in a context that allows for creative freedom.
