DescriptionThis dissertation research addresses the question, how do city residents make sense of urban spaces and places? Additionally, with the abundance of digital information about local places, what is the role of digital technology in reconfiguring these socio-spatial practices? In-depth interviews and contextual field inquiry data using mobile eye-tracking with participants recruited from a large American city was used to investigate the socio-spatial practices of contemporary city residents'. Findings from this research reveals the inseparability of embodied experience with the urban built environment, network storytelling and recommendations, and the use of digital media technologies in city residents' everyday-life spatial practices.
