DescriptionPurpose: The purpose of the project is to implement an evidence-base protocol for the management of an opioid overdose. Then, improve the staff’s confidence in recognizing patients with opioid overdose. Therefore, decreasing the opioid overdose mortality.
Methodology: Project outcome was evaluated with a questionnaire using the 5-point Likert rating scale that was distributed to the employees after training was provided. The questionnaire rated the employees’ confidence level regarding the opioid overdose management protocol.
Results: The intervention led to improve knowledge and confidence, so the staff can save the patient’s life.
Implication for Practice: This project supports the staff, especially nurses who are in the frontline to combat the opioid epidemic by educating not only other health care workers, but also educating the patients and family on how to manage an opioid overdose with the use of naloxone.
