Description“The DollHouse: A Black Trans Boricua’s Journey to Herself” tells the story of Tameeka Ortiz, an Afro-Puerto Rican transwoman from the Bronx. In her journey to trans-womanhood, Tameeka must overcome the machismo rampant in her community as well as her own family’s past and present. Through a series of spiritual gifts that aid her in re-membering parts of her late mother Thamixa’s life, Tameeka is able to heal intergenerational trauma and move forward on her path. The story is a speculative tale that is loosely based on several of my lived experiences of the Ballroom community, family life, as well as my own journey to transness.
